Dental Implants in Mississauga

Replace missing teeth with a solution that looks, feels, and functions like your natural ones. Dental implants are the most durable and bone-preserving tooth replacement available.
Overview

What are dental implants?

A dental implant is a small titanium post surgically placed into the jaw bone to replace a missing tooth root. Over time, the post integrates with the bone, a process called osseointegration, creating a stable, permanent foundation for a crown, bridge, or denture. The result looks and functions like a natural tooth and can last a lifetime with proper care.Dr. Ameen holds diplomate certification from both the International Congress of Oral Implantologists and the American Board of Oral Implantologists, and speaks internationally on implant techniques including full-arch surgery. That level of expertise is available to patients right here in Mississauga.

Permanent Stability

Unlike dentures or bridges, implants are anchored directly into the jaw bone. They don’t slip, require adhesive, or put pressure on adjacent teeth. Most patients forget which tooth was replaced.

Bone Preservation

When a tooth is lost, the jaw bone begins to resorb in the absence of stimulation. Implants mimic natural tooth roots, stimulating the bone and preventing the bone loss that causes facial changes over time.

Long-Term Value

Implants have a documented success rate above 95% over ten years. While the upfront investment is higher than alternatives, the long-term durability, combined with no need to alter adjacent healthy teeth, makes implants the most cost-effective solution for most patients.
Who This Is For

Are you a candidate for dental implants?

Most healthy adults with one or more missing teeth are candidates for implants. Candidacy depends on bone volume, gum health, and overall medical history. We assess all of these at your consultation, and in some cases where bone has been lost, procedures like bone grafting can prepare the site for an implant.

Single Tooth Replacement

One implant supports one crown, replacing a single missing tooth without altering adjacent healthy teeth. This is often preferable to a bridge, which requires grinding down the teeth on either side to serve as anchors.

Multiple Missing Teeth

Two or more implants can support an implant-supported bridge, replacing several consecutive missing teeth without the need for a removable partial denture. This restores full chewing function and prevents bone loss across the affected area.

Full-Arch Restoration

For patients who have lost all teeth in one or both arches, implant-supported full-arch restorations (such as All-on-4 or All-on-6) provide a fixed, non-removable alternative to complete dentures. Dr. Ameen is a recognized speaker on full-arch surgery across North America.

Implant-Supported Dentures

Patients who wear full or partial dentures but want greater stability can upgrade to implant-supported dentures. These snap onto implants, eliminating movement during eating and speaking, and helping preserve the underlying bone.
What To Expect

Your implant journey, step by step.

1

Consultation & Imaging

Your consultation includes a comprehensive assessment of your oral health, medical history, and bone volume. We use digital imaging to evaluate the implant site and determine whether bone grafting is needed. You’ll receive a clear treatment plan, timeline, and detailed cost estimate before anything begins.

2

Implant Placement

The implant post is placed into the jaw bone under local anesthetic in a single surgical appointment. The procedure is typically completed in under an hour per implant. Most patients are surprised at how manageable the recovery is, mild soreness for a few days is common.

3

Osseointegration (Healing Phase)

Over the next three to six months, the titanium post fuses with the surrounding bone. During this period, a temporary crown is often placed so you’re never without a tooth. You’ll have check-in appointments to monitor healing progress.

4

Abutment & Final Crown

Once the implant has fully integrated, a small connector piece (the abutment) is attached. Impressions are taken for your permanent crown, which is custom-crafted to match the colour, shape, and size of your natural teeth.

5

Final Check & Aftercare

The finished crown is secured and your bite is carefully checked. We review home care instructions and schedule a follow-up visit. Implants cared for properly function indefinitely, they don’t decay, though the gum tissue around them still requires good hygiene.

What You Gain

Things to Know

Preparation & Aftercare

Before, during, and after your implant procedure.

Before Surgery

Avoid blood-thinning medications such as ibuprofen in the days before your procedure unless prescribed, discuss this with our team during your pre-operative appointment. Do not smoke for at least 48 hours before and two weeks after surgery. Arrange transportation home on the day of your procedure. If IV sedation has been discussed, fast for the required period beforehand.

Immediately After

Some swelling, bruising, and mild soreness at the implant site is normal and typically peaks within 48 hours. Bite gently on gauze to control any initial bleeding. Apply cold compresses to the outside of your cheek for the first 24 hours. Rest for the remainder of the day and avoid strenuous activity for 48 to 72 hours.

Recovery & Ongoing Care

Eat soft foods for the first one to two weeks and avoid the implant site when chewing. Rinse gently with warm salt water starting the day after surgery, do not spit forcefully. Brush the surrounding teeth carefully, avoiding the surgical site until cleared to do so. Attend all follow-up appointments so we can confirm the implant is integrating properly.
At-Home Care

Caring for your implant long-term.

Implants don’t decay, but the gum tissue around them needs the same care as natural teeth.
Brush twice daily, including around the implant crown and gumline
Floss daily using implant-specific floss or an interdental brush around the post
Use a non-abrasive toothpaste to avoid scratching the crown surface
Avoid chewing ice, hard candy, or other items that can crack the crown
Wear a night guard if you grind your teeth, excessive force can damage the implant over time
Attend all regular checkups so we can monitor the implant and surrounding bone

Common Questions

Dental implants FAQ.

Am I a candidate for dental implants?
Most healthy adults with one or more missing teeth are candidates. The key factors are adequate bone volume, healthy gum tissue, and the absence of uncontrolled systemic conditions. Even patients with some bone loss may be candidates after bone grafting. We assess everything at your consultation.
From implant placement to final crown, the process typically takes three to six months, with bone grafting adding additional healing time. While that timeline may seem long, most of it is passive healing, you’re not in the chair for most of it.
The procedure is performed under local anesthetic, so you won’t feel pain during surgery. Post-operative soreness is typically mild and managed with over-the-counter pain relievers for two to three days. Most patients describe the recovery as easier than they expected.
With proper home care and regular checkups, implants can last a lifetime. The crown placed on top typically lasts ten to fifteen years before replacement may be needed, but the implant post itself is designed to be permanent.
Implant costs depend on the number of teeth being replaced, whether bone grafting is required, and the type of restoration. We provide a detailed, itemized estimate at your consultation. We’re a CDCP office and can review financing options with you, call (647) 692-6053 to book.
