The bonding and white fillings process
White fillings are an obvious improvement over unsightly silver amalgam (metal fillings). Composite bonding uses the same dental techniques and technology to rebuild broken or misshapen teeth. Modern composite repairs often last more than 10 years, look natural and match the colour of your teeth. Composite fillings and bonding are safe, affordable, look great and can be completed in just one appointment.
Before we begin, we will take the time to carefully numb your gums so we can gently freeze the area. People often feel anxious about this step. Freezing will numb your teeth and teeth nerves, as well as your gums and surrounding skin to avoid feeling unnecessary pain during the procedure.
Filling the tooth
Once you’re comfortable, your tooth is carefully cleaned and prepped. An adhesive gel is placed on the affected tooth over which a composite resin will be moulded and sculpted to restore the function and beauty of your smile.
Curing the Composite
The composite resin material used to fill or bond your tooth is quickly cured and hardened with a special LED light. The doctor will carefully examine your finished tooth and make any required finishing touches before polishing it up for a fresh new smile.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long do fillings last?
With a normal daily brushing and flossing routine and regularly scheduled cleaning and checkups, your fillings or bonding can last for over ten years.
Will people be able to tell I've had a filling?
We match the white filling to your natural tooth colour. They are virtually unnoticeable. Sometimes, even we have to take a closer look!
Is composite resin safe?
Absolutely! Composite resin is safe and effective and will ensure a healthier happier smile. We use composite resin for all our dental fillings because it is, by far, the best material for us to work with and for you to benefit from.
Are fillings covered by my insurance?
You must talk to your insurance provider to find out what’s covered on your private insurance plan. If you would like, we can provide you with a quote to submit to your insurance provider to get an accurate estimate of any possible out of pocket costs.
Is there any special aftercare?
Care for your bonded and filled teeth the same way you care for your natural teeth. We recommend brushing and flossing twice a day and regular checkups and cleanings.
