Close the Gaps from Missing Teeth

A dental bridge enhances both the look and well-being of your mouth by filling spaces with a prosthetic tooth anchored by dental implants, your own teeth, or both. Often called a ‘fixed partial denture,’ bridges are permanently attached or cemented in place, eliminating the need for nightly removal or special cleaning. Addressing the gaps left by one to three missing teeth is crucial, not solely for cosmetic reasons, but for maintaining overall oral health. Absent teeth can lead to challenges in speaking or eating, and allow remaining teeth to move, potentially causing additional issues.

Long-lasting benefits of dental bridges

A missing tooth or teeth can leave us feeling self-conscious and uncomfortable. A dental bridge is a great way get your smile looking and feeling normal again, but it also offers long term benefits for your other teeth and the bone health of your mouth. To sum it up, here are the advantages of a dental bridge:

Comfort

These are the obvious advantages because they affect us right now. Feel and look normal again. Smile and eat with confidence and get back the smile you know and love. Missing teeth just don’t feel great and sometimes gaps make it difficult or painful to speak or eat. Dental bridges are a long-lasting solution to discomfort caused by missing teeth – more than ten years with proper care.

Tooth health

Your teeth support each other and contribute to your facial structure. Missing teeth can alter your bite and leave space for other teeth to shift around. A dental bridge blocks teeth from shifting around reducing the risk of decay, periodontal disease, jaw pain and TMJ disorder caused by rogue teeth.

Bone health

Healthy, stable teeth encourage healthy jawbones. As our dental health diminishes so does the health of bone and tissues that support our teeth. Stabilizing your dental health with a dental bridge will slow the rate of bone loss from your missing teeth.

The Benefits of Getting a Dental Bridge

The absence of one or several teeth can significantly impact our self-esteem and comfort. Dental bridges offer an effective solution to restore the aesthetic and functional integrity of your smile, while also delivering enduring benefits for the health of adjacent teeth and the underlying jawbone. Below are the key advantages of opting for a dental bridge:

Here are the benefits you could experience when you replace lost teeth with a bridge:

Immediate Comfort and Aesthetic Improvement

Dental bridges restore your ability to smile confidently and consume food without discomfort, reinstating the familiar appearance and function of your smile. The discomfort and inconvenience associated with missing teeth—ranging from speech difficulties to pain during eating—are addressed with dental bridges, providing a durable solution that, with appropriate care, can exceed a decade of utility.

Preservation of Adjacent Teeth Health

Teeth naturally support each other and play a crucial role in maintaining the structure of the face. The absence of teeth can lead to alterations in bite and create gaps that facilitate the shifting of remaining teeth, potentially leading to a cascade of dental issues. Dental bridges effectively prevent such movement, minimizing the risk of tooth decay, periodontal disease, jaw discomfort, and TMJ disorders that can arise from unaddressed tooth migration.

Jawbone Integrity

The health of the jawbone is closely linked to the presence of healthy, stable teeth. Deterioration in dental health can precipitate the loss of bone and tissue structure that supports teeth. By opting for a dental bridge, you not only restore dental functionality but also contribute to the slowing of bone loss associated with missing teeth, ensuring the long-term health of your jawbone.

The Cost of a Dental Bridge in Mississauga

The cost of a dental bridge can significantly vary from one individual to another. For those with a standard insurance plan, the cost of a dental bridge typically ranges between $800 to $1200 or more. In the absence of insurance, a general estimate for the cost of a bridge falls between $2000 to $3000 and possibly higher.

Here are some factors that affect the cost of dental bridges:

  • Type and Material of the Bridge: The specific kind of bridge selected and the materials from which it is constructed play a pivotal role in determining its cost.
  • Number of Missing Teeth: The total number of teeth needing replacement significantly impacts the overall cost.
  • Procedure Location and Complexity: The site within the mouth and the intricacy of the bridge placement procedure also affect the cost.
  • Health of Adjacent Teeth: The condition of the teeth surrounding the gap can influence the complexity and cost of the bridge procedure.
  • Specific Supplies and Equipment: The unique requirements for each patient’s treatment, including the necessary supplies and equipment, contribute to the cost.

No dental office can provide an accurate cost estimate over the phone due to the highly individualized nature of dental bridge procedures. An in-person consultation and oral examination by a dentist are essential to explore all available treatment options and receive a precise quote.

Frequently Asked Questions

Permanent bridges, semi-permanent bridges, and partial dentures offer different solutions for missing teeth. Permanent bridges are cemented onto adjacent teeth or implants and are not meant to be removed, offering a durable, long-term solution. Semi-permanent bridges, while also fixed, can be more easily removed by a dentist, serving as a temporary or intermediate option. Partial dentures are removable appliances with replacement teeth on a gum-coloured base, offering flexibility but requiring more maintenance. The key difference lies in their permanence and removability: bridges (both permanent and semi-permanent) are fixed in the mouth, while partial dentures can be taken out by the user.

A dental cantilever bridge is a type of dental bridge used when there are not suitable teeth on both sides of a missing tooth or teeth to anchor a traditional bridge. Unlike standard bridges that are supported by teeth on both sides of the gap, a cantilever bridge is anchored to only one adjacent tooth. This technique is less common today and generally not advised for missing teeth at the back of the mouth due to the risk of applying excessive force on the supporting tooth, potentially causing damage. For missing teeth located in the back, alternative solutions are recommended to avoid such issues.

With proper care, dental bridges can last for 10 years or more.

Getting a dental bridge typically involves two visits to the dentist, with each session lasting less than an hour.

Dental bridges are made from a variety of materials including gold alloys, non-precious alloys, porcelain, or a mix of these materials. Porcelain is the primary material used in our dental bridge procedures, favoured for its aesthetic qualities and durability.

Dental bridges and crowns serve distinct purposes in dental care. A dental crown is a prosthetic cap fitted over a damaged, decayed, or weakened tooth, effectively restoring its shape, strength, and appearance. Crowns are used to protect individual teeth and prevent further decay or damage. On the other hand, a dental bridge is specifically designed to fill the space left by one or more missing teeth. It typically consists of one or more false teeth (pontics) that are anchored in place by crowns attached to the adjacent teeth on either side of the gap. While both can improve dental health and appearance, crowns are focused on repairing individual teeth, whereas bridges are intended to replace missing teeth.

Yes, zirconia is a dental material that can be used in fashioning a dental bridge. When you visit us for a consultation, we’ll let you know what your dental bridge material options are and help you choose the right kind for your smile.

No, a single crown alone cannot fill the gap left by a missing tooth. A crown is designed to cover and protect an existing tooth that is damaged, decayed, or aesthetically compromised. It must be supported by a tooth structure beneath the gum line, such as a prepared natural tooth, a remaining part of the tooth with a post, or a dental implant. To replace a missing tooth, options like a dental bridge or an implant with a crown on top are typically used, where the crown serves as the visible part of the tooth replacement.

I’ve been visiting Tomken since moving to Mississauga 2 years ago and I was impressed by their staff’s friendliness and welcoming attitude! I did my cleaning, cavity fixture and wisdom teeth removal and all went great. However I did have 2 cavity fixes within a year on the same teeth which I thought was a bit weird but they fixed and explained it to me. It always makes me feel at home during the appointment and the receptionists are very nice and helpful too. I would give them a six star just for letting the customers feel welcoming/ warm.
