Frequently Asked Questions
Your checkup will include a teeth cleaning and dental exam. It’s the perfect opportunity to have harmful debris removed from your teeth and learn how to prevent it from causing problems. It’s also a chance to find out if you have any undiagnosed issues that need treatment.
Decay is caused by bacteria in your mouth. The bacteria feed on the carbohydrates you eat and then secrete an acidic waste product that wears holes in your enamel. Those holes are cavities. But cavities only develop if the bacteria are allowed to grow undisturbed on your teeth. That’s why tooth decay can rapidly spread in hard-to-clean areas, like between molars. A diet high in sugary carbohydrates can also accelerate the activity of cavity-causing bacteria.
Some people are predisposed to having more cavities because their teeth may be closely crowded together. Others are at risk because of having poor oral hygiene or a diet that’s high in sweet foods and drinks. Some are prone to tooth decay because they suffer from dry mouth or another medical condition.
Cavities rarely hurt, at first. They only become painful when the decay has worked its way deep into your tooth. You can prevent a cavity from causing a painful and costly toothache by treating it before it hurts. Your dentist may notice a cavity long before you feel it. By treating it with a filling, you can spare yourself a lot of time and expense.
Dental fillings are usually the first line of defence in fighting tooth decay. If you have a tiny cavity, that is just beginning to form, then you may even be able to stop it and strengthen your tooth with fluoride. But if you have a large cavity, then you may need to restore your tooth with a dental crown. If the decay is deep, then you may even need a root canal to halt the infection and save your tooth. If your tooth is beyond saving, then it may even need to be removed and replaced with a dental implant or a dental bridge. Visit your dentist to find out which treatment is best for your tooth.
Yes, it’s perfectly safe to visit the dentist during pregnancy for routine cleanings and dental exams. Preventative dental treatment during pregnancy is actually very important to the health of both the mother and the growing baby. If a dental emergency arises, a dentist can safely treat an expectant mother, but elective, or non-vital, treatments such as teeth bleaching should wait until after the baby arrives.

Best dental experience ever! Especially during this pandemic, I felt very comfortable knowing that they are following strict protocols, doing patient screenings, and checking temperatures prior to my arrival. They made me feel at ease. Very clean and everyone in their office wears their PPE’s. They make you wait in your car instead of in the office and when they are ready to bring you in they come out and give you excellent customer service, holding the doors for you. Thank you, guys!
